Ironman Malaysia 2008 Achieves Highest Participation Thus Far

LANGKAWI, Feb 22 (Bernama) -- The Ironman Malaysia 2008 which gets underway here this Saturday has drawn a participation of 700 triathletes from 38 countries, its highest since the event was introduced eight years ago.

"This year the competition will also be stiffer as 2005 world champion Faris Al-Sultan is among the contenders," Langkawi Ironman Endurance Marathon Sdn Bhd (LIEM) president Datuk Sri Ram Sarma told Bernama.

LIEM are the organisers of the event.

A total of 148 Malaysians are also taking part, including big names like Wong Ah Tiam, Dr Fiona Lim, Don Khor, Hairul Azwar and Cecil Cheong.

A total of RM161,000 in prize money is on offer for the winners.
